Your Roof is too Old

If your roof is older than 15 or 20 years, you should consider replacing it. If it is older than 25 years, you definitely have to get a new one. If you aren’t sure about the age of your roof, hire a professional to inspect it. If the contractor notices your roof is in bad shape and possibly puts your home and family members at risk, you should replace it as soon as possible. Replacement can be a rather expensive home project, but it is something you must do if you care about your home.

The Top is Leaking

Leaks can usually be fixed without by a roofing expert without tearing down the entire house top down. However, when the top is leaking, it means that the flashing is damaged.  This is a sign that this essential part of your roof is worn out and you should give it some attention. Whenever you notice a leak, you should fix it as soon as possible. If you noticed algae on your rooftop, you should be worried. These little creatures are always in the air, but they germinate only when they get caught on damp surfaces. So, if you have them on your roof, it means it is moist. If you don’t fix this problem, the algae will continue to grow and feed on your roof, which will make it weaker over time. The more you delay the issue, the greater the risk is the top can come down. Hire a roofing contractor to inspect the extent of the damage and scrub off the algae from the top of your house. If you are in some DIY repairs and home projects, you could try to use zinc strips to remove them by yourself. However, if you don’t have the proper safety equipment, we don’t recommend this, especially because roof covered with algae is very slippery.
